i ended up finding a vegan spinach salad at the airport in baltimore so i ate that on my connecting flight. i had zuchinni chips when i landed.
i started the next morning with shakeology. it was just chocolate with rice milk and ice. rice milk is kind of watery so its not my favorite. my friend tried it and thought it was ok, i wouldve preferred she tried it with cold almond milk or as a recipe with fruit or nuts, but i didnt have that stuff with me. her baby, however, loved it! lol of course we didnt like fill up a bottle or anything but she loved licking the straw. it was awesome because it was the first time since ive adapted a healthy life that ive seen a baby with chocolate all over their face and didnt think "whyyy is that baby eating chocolate?" lol
i did a bunch of hair and ate an orange and "bakery on main" cranberry orange granola throug out the day. i had a few servings of that. no real "meals". shakeology was deff the healthiest meal of that day!lol that night, Stacey, the girl whos house i was working out of, came home with a bananna and almond milk so i could make her a delicious shake! i used chocolate vegan shakeology, vanilla unsweetened almond milk, cinnamon, and bananna in the nutribullet (super easy to travel with, blades are less than 5" so u can even carry on!) she said she liked it! the only ingredient it was missing was nuts, but it was still good. i love it with banana because it is thick like a milk shake.
that night i slept at my sisters and we had carrots and hummus for a snack. saturday morning i made apple, banana, spinach smoothies for me and my sister. she drank it right up and my baby neice LOVED it.
i did a bunch of hair appointments and then i went for a walk to a local restraunt for lunch. its a little place thats been around forever so i thought it would be good. i ordered a veggie wrap and a side salad with water. i asked for nothing but vegetables, they didnt have an option on the menu without meat or eggs. when i got it, it had eggs in it. so i got a new one without them. it was like frozen bag stirfry vegetables with zero seasoning or anything. granted i didnt want cheese or oil, if it were fresh it wouldve had flavor anyway. it came with lays chips, didnt eat them. the salad was lettuce, 2 onions, 2 green peppers. i didnt go "off the wagon" but this is the type of shit that makes people think healthy or vegetarian/vegan food is gross.
i had a few more appointments and one was with another beach body coach! i had the BEST time talking to her all about our views and goals and ideas and it was awesome. there is nothing i love more than good conversation with like-minded individuals. i hate when i feel like someone wants me to convince them to believe what i believe. its so much more fun when youre already on the same page.
that night i grabbed take out from a restauraunt with friends. there was nothing but salad on the menu that wasnt animal, once again. so i had them ask the cook if there was egg in the pizza crust and there wasnt. i ordered a pizza with mushrooms peppers and onions, no cheese, no butter on the crust. the crust was pretty thin. i also had a garden salad with hot sauce rather than dressing. im addicted and since ive given up franks red hot at home, i allowed myself a treat on vacation. after dinner, i went to the gym with my friends erika and joey. it was midnight. but we didnt care! these are my two most fit friends, id say. erika has a natural awesome bod, but the work she puts into it makes it drool worthy. joey, naturually pretty skinny, has been working literally as long as i have to lose weight, at gaining it. hes doing damn well too! shes deff bulked up. the gym was empty besides maybe 3 other people. we here picking shit up and putting it down (lol), running on the treadmill, doing situps hanging from a bar (ok, i only did 5, but its a start!!), and acting a fool. it was an awesome way to spend a saturday night on vacation in my book :)
the next morning was the 5k on west island i was running with my mom! Stacey had also signed up, so she would be running with us. my mom had a friend from work there as well. my brother was volunteering and my dad rode his bike there to see us cross the finish. it was a really great race. considering the recent terrorism events it felt really good to be running in my home state with a BOSTON STRONG shirt on. West Island is a little island in the town of fairhaven. the run had great views and included some dirt roads. the only down side was that i felt like crap after! this was the first time ive run with people with the agreement we were all going at our own speed, aka not sticking together. which is cool! i dont want anyone to have to hold back to keep up with me. my mom runs fast and trains almost daily, so i know how she got where she is. but my moms friend was doing her first 5k ever. stacey hadnt done one in almost a year. all 3 of them finished about 2 minutes faster than me! that made me feel like crap! just when you feel like youre doing well, leave it up to comparing yourself to others to knock you down lol. i feel proud of how far ive come, because i know how slow i used to be. i dont know if what i am feeling is embarassment, that i was SO bad that even with daily exercise i STILL cant keep up? i kind of feel like maybe im not working hard enough, because i still cant frieken keep up! it just sucks to work so hard and still be LAST. i mean, i wasnt last in the grand sceme of the race, but i was last in my group of people. 37 minutes. no better than my last 5k. ive done a 35 min 5k on the treadmill before, that has been my goal the last 2 5ks, and i cant seem to get it! i am proud to say, however, that i never walked. my pace (according to my UP band) was 11.3. i guess if thats the pace that works for me so i can run to start to finish i will just have to be proud of that and strive to get this little engine choo-chooin a little bit faster :)
after the race i went to tropical smoothie and got the island green smoothie, no sugar or splenda. i dont remember exactly whats in it but i know banana and kale were in it. its only 220 calories, very filling, and my baby neice loved that one too lol i got to see my 5 year old niece's first t-ball game, and then i went to the grocery store with my mom to get ingredients for dinner. i would be feeding 11 people 100% vegan, 70% organic dinner over the next 2 nights. i went to Stop & shop, shopped the Natures Promise section. they have a ton of coupons at the door right now! some are manufacturers coupons, which i took for back home! lol anyways, i got enough food to feed all those people, and there were left overs both nights, for $40!!! you heard it. my mom witnessed it. its not THAT expensive to eat healthy!!
i made a cauliflower/sweet potato shepards pie for dinner with a few friends sunday night. meatless crumbles, half a sweet potato, a head of cauliflower, onions, zuchinni, spinach, corn, fake cheese, broccoli, YUM. im pretty sure everyone liked it. a few had 2 servings and asked for the recipe. by request, ill put it in the recipes section soon :) theres pics in the FOOD section already though.
monday morning i made apple, pear, lime, spinach smoothies for me and mom. they were OK, ingredient ratio was deff off lol. i did a few hair appts and had a shakeology, rice milk, almond, peanut butter shake to keep me full. for dinner that night i made home made tomato sauce with sauted vegetables and whole wheat spaghetti for my family, along with a big giant salad. it was mostly vegan, other than the parm cheese or salad dressing some used. i was so proud of my 5 year old niece and 3 year old nephew eating good food and seeming to enjoy it! more so, i was proud of my sister for doing such a good job that they werent even reluctant to try it! dont get me wrong, they didnt clear their plates. but when they wanted snacks later and my sister insisted they eat their dinner, they did. and they did clear their plates, and it was awesome eating and awesome parenting. i was a proud auntie :) my mom and brother ate dinner with us as well. my sister, her coworker, erika, and i went to zumba that night! we go to a dancing school where the choreographer from our highschool drama club teaches. her class is awesome. if u are looking to zumba in new bedford, MA holler at me and ill give u details! anyways, according to my UP band, i burned just over 800 calories in an hour of zumba! sa-weeeeet!!
i had some raw "super cookies" for a snack while i packed up my bags again, and at 6:20 this morning, was on the way to the airport. quick, but awesome trip :-D
